IT’S TIME TO THINK SPRING!
The early bird gets the worm! The cold months are coming soon, so why not think about a log home for the spring? Remember that there are more steps than just buying and building a log home and many of them take a considerable amount of time. Just receiving the log package can take six to eight weeks. Fall and winter are the perfect seasons to get your log home to-do list finished so you can build and enjoy your completed home right when the weather gets nice!
What to Start Working on Now:
is not the first step to securing your dream home!
2. When thinking about designing your home, pay special attention to the conventional rafters your builder will supply. The size of the rafters will depend on how much snow you get in your area.
3. Obtain a set of blueprints so you can move on to the next steps. If you are building a custom home, you will most likely be making a lot of changes to the design before your home is perfected and you receive your final set of prints. Making changes can add another few weeks to your timetable.
4. After you have your prints, obtain a loan for your log home, if needed. Some banks aren’t giving out loans right now. If your bank isn’t, find one that is.
5. If you have local building codes, check to make sure your log home meet all requirements. If not, make changes.
6. If your county requires it, have prints stamped by a structural engineer.
7. Now it is time to obtain a builder as builders’ schedules tend to fill up very quickly in the spring and summer. It is best to find and schedule a builder as soon as possible. Don’t know of one? Check with your local lumberyard. We may be able to refer you to one, depending on where you are building, but it is not guaranteed.
8. Obtain a well driller. Note that wells can be drilled in the winter.
9. Pour your foundation, weather permitting. It should not be too cold when this is completed.
That's okay! We currently have customers building during the winter!
